About Edward Merrin

As a fire science expert, I spend kind of a lot of time thinking about fire and the importance of fire safety, and fire’s effect on the environment. Inevitably this leads me to consider some of the more, shall we say, “silly” sides of fire. That’s why I’ve created this site.

Not to say I like to poke fun at victims of natural disasters. While time has set a clear boundary between the modern era and the Great Chicago Fire, for example, sometimes it’s not really clear whether a joke is “too soon.” I try to be respectful, but sometimes speaking lightly about natural disasters lands the biggest punchline.

And in the end, we’re all a slave to the punchline.

In my spare time, besides waxing philosophic on fire and things related to fire (which does take up quite a bit of my time, to be honest) I enjoy the cinema. I do a little bit of amateur movie reviewing, and I enjoy watching independent films. I find that independent films do tend to take more risks when it comes to dialog choice, plot twists, and character. I admire anyone willing to take risks and go against the grain.

In my next website, I hope to address my appreciation for film, both Independent and heavily commercial.
